I took Spirulina because I had read a lot about its benefits in the internet. Also because my brother had taken it (long ago) and he had seen good results.
So I took it for around 2 weeks, and boom, I got hospitalised. I am now diagnosed for having macrocytic anemia, a condition caused by lack of vitamin b12 and folate (vitamin b9).
I googled and found out that Spirulina hinders b12 absorption because it has a molecule which resembles b12 and hence our body cells absorb this pseudo-b12 instead of real b12.
I am a vegetarian, hence a restricted diet, hence don’t get much b12 already!!!
I had done research on spirulina’s side effects before taking it but nobody talks about this. When I specifically searched, I found only one doctor who talked about it.
It also depends on your body type. My brother is a vegetarian too. It worked for him but not for me. Still, it’s best to stay away and not to experiment with our bodies with these heavily marketed things.
